ATLANTA, GA — KIPP Atlanta Schools is proud to announce that the KIPP Forward Match Team at Atlanta Collegiate (KAC) has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the prestigious Excellence in College Counseling Award. Presented by The Common App and Reach Higher—an initiative founded by former First Lady Michelle Obama—in collaboration with the College Football Playoff Foundation, this recognition celebrates the outstanding work of college counselors in supporting first-generation and low-income students on their journey to higher education. In 2024, KIPP Atlanta Schools celebrated a milestone achievement, with over 90% of KIPP graduates enrolling in post-secondary programs and many being the first in their families to attend college.

The award will be presented during the College Football Playoff Championship weekend, January 17-20, 2025, in Atlanta. The festivities will include the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit and culminate with an on-field celebration during the National Championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Irving Williams, Managing Director of KIPP Forward, will be recognized alongside other exemplary educators from across the nation.

Irving expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, “At KIPP Atlanta Schools, we believe in empowering every scholar to dream big and achieve their goals. This award is a testament to the hard work, resilience, and determination of our scholars, families, and team. We are honored to be part of a community that champions access to higher education for all.”

Under the leadership of CEO Mini’imah Shaheed, KIPP Atlanta Schools has been unwavering in its commitment to providing scholars with the tools and support needed to succeed beyond high school.

“This recognition is a reflection of the incredible dedication of our counselors, educators, and scholars. Through our KIPP Forward program, we strive to ensure that every scholar—regardless of background—has access to the opportunities and resources necessary to thrive in college, careers, and beyond,” said Mini’imah. “We are deeply grateful to The Common App and Reach Higher and the College Football Playoff Foundation for shining a spotlight on this important work.”

The KIPP Forward program plays a pivotal role in supporting KIPP scholars as they navigate life after high school. By offering personalized counseling, financial aid guidance, and mentorship, KIPP Forward helps scholars enroll in and graduate from college, pursue career pathways, and achieve their dreams.

This award highlights the transformative impact of KIPP Atlanta Schools’ mission to create pathways to success for every scholar. The KAC Match Team’s work exemplifies the core values of collaboration, excellence, and equity that define the KIPP community.
