Chief People Officer

Terra Walker Jean-Louis serves as Chief People Officer for KIPP Atlanta Schools. Since joining the KIPP Team in 2014, Terra has served in several roles, including Founding Director of Operations at KIPP STRIVE Primary School and Director of Parent Engagement of Advocacy. In 2018, Terra proudly began serving as Principal of KIPP Vision Primary School, where she relentlessly prioritized joyful and equitable scholar and team culture, resulting in significant gains in academic achievement and stakeholder satisfaction. She was awarded the Teach on Project Principal of the Year Award in 2020 and subsequently transitioned to the role of Head of Schools for Leadership.

Terra began her professional career in education immediately upon graduation from the University of Florida in 2001. She taught middle and high school and served as an Instructional Coach for 7 years in Orange County Public Schools (Orlando) before moving to Atlanta in 2008. From 2008-2014, she served scholars in Gwinnett County Schools and Atlanta Public Schools as an Assistant Principal before transitioning to KIPP Atlanta Schools. Terra is grateful for each part of her professional journey to the role of Chief People Officer and believes her prior experiences are highly leverageable and directly impact her approach to leading the Talent Team with love and a high bar of excellence.

As a lifelong learner, Terra earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, as well as an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. Terra’s greatest joy is her son, Christian, who recently began his collegiate career at Clemson University. Outside of KIPP, Terra enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and supporting families impacted by autism through her nonprofit, Beauty in Autism.
