About Dr. Jamaul Thomas

Deputy Chief Schools Officer

Jamaul joined the KIPP Atlanta Schools team as Managing Director of School Operations and has been elevated to a Head of Schools role. Jamaul is new to Atlanta but has spent his career supporting scholars from turnaround settings in both public and charter school districts. Jamaul has spent his last three years with IDEA Public Schools doing some “good trouble” in Tampa, Florida. All roles were in direct support of providing excellence in equity of education for every child, at every chance, every single day. Jamaul’s greatest joy in his most recent tenure was to support and develop leaders, building their capacity to lead others.

Jamaul began his career in Orange County Public Schools, serving as the reading content leader, then as the TFT Specialist, and then as a middle school Guidance Counselor. He then matriculated back to his hometown of Lake City and Columbia County Schools serving him home community in education. In 2019, his work took him to join IDEA Public Schools where he did a one-year principal residency. From there he climbed the leadership ladder as a Principal in Residence, Founding Principal, Executive Principal/IVPS supporting the development of school leaders statewide to bridge the connection between operations and instruction.

Jamaul is excited to join the KIPP Atlanta team and family! He is eager to continue to do the transformative work taking place. As he joins the team, his intent is to be the change he wishes to see in providing equity in education for every child, every chance, every day!
